At Nationwide Education, we believe that your experience and prior learning should be valued. Our Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process allows you to gain formal recognition for the skills and knowledge you've acquired through work experience, informal training, and previous study. This can fast-track your qualification, saving you time and money.
Subsidised training and incentives
The Queensland Government invests in training based on industry advice to provide Queenslanders with the skills they need to gain meaningful and sustainable employment through the provider of their choice.
Government funding aims to minimise skills shortages, focus on training for jobs and industries that are in demand, and increase the number of Queenslanders with formal post-school qualifications.
The Skills Assure Supplier (SAS) Framework is a key action from the Good Jobs, Great Training: Queensland Skills Strategy 2024–2028, a five-year plan to further strengthen the state’s vocational education and training (VET) system. The SAS Framework is administered by the Department of Trade, Employment and Training (‘Department’).
Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) must be approved to deliver Queensland Government subsidised training under the SAS Framework. Nationwide Education has been approved to deliver specific qualifications and skill sets under the following core VET programs.

Nationwide Education – Approved subsidised programs
Please see below the qualifications and skill sets Nationwide Education has been approved to provide through the Career Start and Career Boost subsidised programs. All subsidised qualifications and skill sets are delivered face to face in Townsville.
If your course is eligible, the Queensland Government will pay the subsidy directly to Nationwide Education (RTO #31954). The level of the government subsidy depends on the demand for workers within the industry. You will need to contribute to the cost of your training through a co-contribution fee; this includes all fees associated when enrolling with Nationwide Education. Career Start
The Career Start program provides individuals with the skills and support to start their career. It helps support eligible students to complete their first post-school certificate III level qualification.
Career Start offers either a general training pathway or an employment-based apprenticeship or traineeship pathway.
Under Career Start, an eligible individual may access up to two subsidised training places through one of the following options:
- a general qualification at certificate III AND an apprenticeship or traineeship, noting that if the apprenticeship or traineeship is done first, the individual is no longer eligible to access a general qualification under Career Start; OR
- two apprenticeships or traineeships at either certificate II or III, including school-based apprenticeships or traineeships (SATs).
In addition, under Career Start, individuals may access one subsidised introductory-level skill set.
An individual cannot do two general pathway qualifications under Career Start.
Career Start – General Training Pathway
Qualifications delivered through a general training pathway are available for direct enrolment and do not require the student to enter into a training contract (apprenticeship/traineeship) with an employer.

Career Start – General Training Eligibility
To access a subsidised training place under Career Start, a student must meet the following criteria:
- be aged 15 years or older;
- not be a school student;
- permanently reside in Queensland;
- be an Australian citizen, or Australian permanent resident (includes humanitarian entrant), or a temporary resident with the right visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency, or a New Zealand citizen;
- not already have a certificate III or higher qualification completed within the last 10 years (qualifications completed as a school student and foundation skills qualifications do not count); and
- not be enrolled in another qualification, even if it is on hold or deferred, whether funded by DTET or not (foundation skills qualifications do not count).
Along with the eligibility criteria above, specific entry restrictions or exemptions may apply to certain subsidised qualifications and skill sets. These are set by industry or sector requirements, as well as national training package guidelines.
Career Start – Apprenticeships and Traineeships Pathway
For apprenticeships and traineeships, an individual must be employed as an apprentice or trainee. This pathway is part of the Australian Apprenticeships system and requires all parties to sign an Apprenticeship and Traineeship Training Contract (the Contract) as defined by the Further Education and Training Act 2014 (the Act).
Nationwide Education is approved to deliver the following qualifications under the Career Start apprenticeship and traineeship pathway:

Please note an individual may complete a maximum of two apprenticeships/traineeships across the suite of core programs. The total number of subsidised apprenticeships/traineeships across all programs cannot exceed two per individual.
Career Start – Apprenticeship or Traineeship Eligibility
To be eligible for the Apprenticeship or Traineeship Career Start subsidy, you must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- be currently employed as a Queensland apprentice or trainee (under a registered training contract) for a qualification that is funded by DTET and be registered on DTET systems;
- not be a school student;
- not currently be enrolled in any other qualification, whether funded or unfunded, except for foundation skills qualifications;
- if from overseas, have a visa allowing you to work in Australia; and
- not exceed a maximum of two government-funded apprenticeships or traineeships (including SATs) within a 10-year period.
Along with the eligibility criteria above, specific entry restrictions or exemptions may apply to certain subsidised qualifications and skill sets. These are set by industry or sector requirements, as well as national training package guidelines.
Students will be funded a maximum of two government-funded apprenticeships or traineeships across the School-based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SATs), Career Start and Career Boost programs in a ten-year period. Students can receive funding for only one apprenticeship or traineeship at a time.
Career Boost
Career Boost aims to take a person’s career to the next level, enabling them to grow and apply their skills to existing or new job roles and to support productivity growth and workplace innovation.
Career Boost offers either a general training pathway or an employment-based apprenticeship or traineeship pathway. Under Career Boost, the Queensland Government may subsidise certificate IV and diploma qualifications as well as selected skill sets.
Career Boost – General Training Pathway
Qualifications and skill sets delivered through a general training pathway are available for direct enrolment and do not require the student to enter into a training contract (apprenticeship/traineeship) with an employer.

Career Boost – General Training Eligibility

Career Boost – Apprenticeship or Traineeship Eligibility

- not exceed a maximum of two government-funded apprenticeships or traineeships (including SATs) within a 10-year period.
School-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships
School-based apprenticeships and traineeships allow secondary school students (usually in Years 10, 11 and 12) to prepare for life after school, in a career of their choice, learning invaluable real-life workplace skills and hands-on industry experience, while earning a wage and training towards a nationally recognised qualification.
School-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SATs) Eligibility
To be eligible for the SATs Apprenticeship or Traineeship subsidy, you must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- be enrolled in Year 10, 11 or 12 in a Queensland school;
- not be concurrently enrolled in any other qualifications funded by the Department; and
- have entered into a training contract for a qualification that is funded by the Department and be registered on the Department’s training database.
School students can only access funding for a maximum of one (1) school-based apprenticeship or traineeship. This is to ensure a school student does not use their entire apprenticeship or traineeship entitlement while at school.
